Dear friends — I’d like to invite you to take a look at my introductory essay to the Summer Issue of SHARK REEF literary magazine, an online journal that I’ve had the honor to work with for several years.
The link to my essay is here: “Better”
Better yet, (what is better than better? just wait…), just go ahead and click on and read this mellifluous, gorgeous essay by Nick Hadikwa Mwaluko.
Masha Gessen has called our time “a revolutionary moment.” Mwaluko speaks to the challenges beautifully, as well as the hopes of our time.
Think you aren’t connected to the struggle for Black lives?
That’s what I thought once. Maybe you had better take a look at my essay after all.
Happy Juneteenth and beyond.

Stephanie, you put the much needed magnifying glass on the world and all us at such a challenging, sad & shameful time of natural disaster & environmental destruction. as well as the immoral and illegal abuse & murder of our fellow-humans. Your gifts of expression through essay & poetry is a caution and an inspiration to me. Thank you for being you! & ps sorry about no Jewish ancestors found….but even if it’s not in old blood it is in your heart and soul my friend. Laura
